OPEN LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
EU-PARLIAMENT
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Following the European elections the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ:
Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs) now only has one representative
in the European Parliament. This person is the Carinthian publicist Andreas
Mölzer, who was able to overtake the FPÖs primary candidate
by means of the preferred candidate voting system. In many parts of the
Austrian media Mölzer is described euphemistically as a »German
Nationalist« or »Nationalist Liberal« or even re-assessed
as a »Right-wing Intellectual«.
In the enclosed you will find material which clearly documents the extreme
right-wing and racist background of Andreas Mölzer. It includes Mölzers
conviction for the dissemination of National Socialist thinking and his
polemics against the prohibition of Austrian annexation to Germany and
also his essays against »typical Slav passivity« und »ethno-cultural
intrusion« as »levelling to the most simple civilising denominator«.
Repeated preliminary investigations into Andreas Mölzers weekly
newssheet ZUR ZEIT on account of its anti-semitic articles and playing
down of Nazi atrocities are also documented. Finally we have included
reports on constitutional protection and a dossier from the Documentation
Archive of the Austrian Resistance.
Without wishing to overstate the significance of Andreas Mölzer we
do believe that his entry into the European Parliament is connected with
the danger of an increase in approval for right-wing thinking. If he should
succeed in presenting himself as a respectable European politician, this
would give a fatal signal, in and for Austria in particular. We therefore
appeal to you to offer your new »colleague« no opportunity
to raise his profile, not even through »cooperation in political
matters«. Please support the democratic public in Austria and clearly
refuse to condone any and all political forces that seek to spread racist
and National Socialist thinking under the justification of freedom of
opinion or plurality.
With our best wishes
Angelika Hödl & Gerhard Pilgram, IG
